Applique

Applique used to be something I would dread. But now I find I kind of like it.

Ten years ago I started a quilt and designed one border to have applique. I never finished it.

I am thinking of getting the quilt back out and finishing it, after this weekend good results with applique.

First though I will finish this project by sewing up a new purse for summer.

Mommy stuff

After all the costume sewing, I have been catching up on simpler things. I mended a few favorite shirts that were so well worn the seems were starting to unravel. I cut the front character designs off of favorite t-shirts and appliqued them on new larger shirts. I put patches over holes in the knees of jeans.



I finished one last pirate hat. But let it get away before I took a picture. It was black with a gold braid trim on the edge of the brim and a large white skull and crossbones on the front. I am sure It wont be the last hat I make (not all my friends have one yet).



I also did a little embroidery. The green version was for practice. It is just to girly for What I had in mind. The muslin one will get made into a small bag.

More "Pirate Party Wear"

This is the blouse and corset i will be wearing with the skirt pictured previously. (and now everyone has a face to put with me.)


below are a couple of hats for friends. The first is a practice hat. Made out of odds and ends to check pattern sizing. (why don't pattern companies do extra-large? Oh well. I successfully re sized existing patterns to get what I wanted.)

The second Hat I reworked to dress up and put in wire for support of the shape.



The red hat went from being a tricorne to a bicorne.

I got completely lucky with the stripes lining up as well as they did. I love how it looks form the back.

Our friend decided to have a pirate themed Birthday party. I think they just want to dress up like pirates. For the next few days I will be sewing pirate clothes.

Really Big Tote!

It did not really sink in how big a 15 inch tote bag would be until I had it cut out and started sewing it together. It has six outer pockets and four inner pockets. The base is 11 inches by 13 inches. I don't know what I will use it for. I found the Peacock fabric at the thrift store and wanted to make a bag.

Bookmarks

After I made my Japanese Paper Doll, Myra wanted to make one.

Using a pattern and instructions found on the Internet, we made bookmark dolls.

My First Doll

This is my first attempt at making a doll from the "Paper Dolls of Old Japan" book I got for Christmas. The measurements were somewhat hard to follow, but I think It turned out nice for the first try. I think for it to look more like the pictures in the book I need to double the measurements for the Hair. It should be a lot fuller (puffier).

I got a new sewing machine so hopefully more unfinished projects will get finished. My old sewing machine was almost 12 years old and well used.
