December 28th

The stuffed animals I gave a Christmas gifts seemed to be a big success.

The kids are busy playing with all the new goodies.

The cat decided the day after Christmas that we had to take down the tree right away. He knocked the tree over, breaking the stand, and splashing ornaments with the nearby cup of hot chocolate. I can say there were very few casualties to the ornaments. We will have to buy a new tree before next Christmas.

I hope a very Happy Holiday season was had by everyone.

Last minute finish.

My Little Pony, from vintage pattern. I made up the colors and hip symbol as I went along. I used ribbon for the hair and rainbow eyelashes from Halloween. The roses on her hip are iron on patches, sewn down to make more permanent.

It's a Shirt..It's a Dog

A dog made from a Recycled Shirt. He has a pocket to store a bone in. And the shirt collar forms his collar! The collar was just a tiny bit larger but I wiggled it into place.

Christmas is on its way

Myra's Christmas Dress. It is finally finished. It took so much longer than planned (I injured my foot)

This is my Christmas Tree. Everything is a snowman or a snowflake! And the Star is Both.

Fun Stuff

One Dinosaur Egg. IT was to be about 10 inches tall. unfortunately the directions were wrong and each square on the grid should have equaled a half inch. I think It would have stood up better at a smaller size. Wait until you see the Dinosaur, also twice the size it should have been.

Hello Kitty Waffles! Yummy! The little Bunny is my favorite.

A knitted Fish, Kitchen scrubby. Too cute to use! and My second finished knit project. I used size 3 needles and worsted weight yarn. I have no Idea what the pattern called for. It was written in Japanese. The best I could tell was it used a size 8 needle which would have been a size 11 in US needles. But what Yarn?

Thrifty finds

I found this great sewing machine table today.
It has a few water stains on the table top but other than that it is in great shape. A little sand paper and paint and it will be terrific.

I found a craft book from 1972. Better Homes and Gardens, Gifts to Make Yourself. Lots of cute retro toys and purses.

A gallon storage bag of Perler beads. The Kids love these! (me too!) A troll color book from 1993. And never colored in. Another kids book and a Mill Hill Needlework kit.

Last week I found 57 Zippers. Perfect for purses and accessories.

I went to The fabric store for a pattern while they are on sale today and ended up with 11 pieces of fabric from the remnant bin.

purses on the brain

I made another reversible purse. This one needs to be about 50% larger but it turned out well for anyone who does not need to carry half the house in their purse.

I think the need for a larger purse came along with having kids.

I guess the holiday season officially starts on Sunday with our local Christmas parade. And next Friday, after Thanksgiving, I will have to start putting out the decorations and set up the christmas tree.

new patterns

I tried out a couple of new patterns today. First was a dragon beanie from a library book. Turned out pretty good, but if I make another I won't use polar fleece.

Next I tried to make up a purse I had seen while browsing the internet. I had to take some time to figure out the order of all the seems. My bag is a little larger than what is probably normal, but a good size for practicing the construction.
I like the reversible effect.

Wee are fun

It started with the Wee Dragon and now we have created a Wee Fairy. Thanks to Hillary of Wee Wonderfuls for the cute simple pattern for the bodies.

needle book

I borrowed the book, Flower Origami, by Kumiko Sudo from my local library. I had to try something from the book so I made this little needle book. since it matches my needleroll I am thinking I now need a matching tote bag.

fabric, fabric, and more fabric

Today I folded and stacked fabric. I put it into two closet organizers for sweaters. I still have some odds and ends in the boxes below the organizers, but all the cotton and cotten blend fabrics are in the zip up storage where I can still see what is inside.

on a roll

Today's project was to make something to keep all the knitting needles organized.
I had no idea I had so many needles!

Not much crafty was finished today. Noah and I spent a great deal of time this morning at the Library for story time. I did manage four rows of knitting on the illusion scarf. Not much but every little bit is one step closer to finished.

Scarf for a Princess

Myra, the happy princess, wearing her new hat and scarf.

I over estemated how much I had done before. I must have had closer to 3 feet done. The finished scarf is 45 inches. Not wanting fringe I croched a little row of shells on each end.

The hat was inspired by one from headhuggers.org. I followed the instructions for the hat and since I wanted beads on the tiara I croched It directly to the top of the hat, making it up as I went along.

Now on to scarf number two. I started an Illusion scarf. I am using red and black. No pictures until its done, since it is a suprize for my husband.

Knitting

I decided to give knitting another try. Once long ago in 3rd grade I made an orange square in 4h.
Then we moved and I did not rejoin 4h in our new town. I tried again briefly in collage, where the kind lady who sat at the visitors desk of the dormatory was helping me try to do some slippers. College was too busy, and the Lady became ill and decided not to sit for us anymore.

I am hoping to finish something this time around and since I am teaching myself no excuses for not getting it done. Iam starting with a simple scarf 18 stitches wide on size 11 needles. Knit a row Purl a row. I have about 4 feet of this so far.

I am having trouble with the tension at the beginning and end. The loops are various sizes. but overall it does not look bad.

Next I want to either do an illusion scarf or the Irish Hiking scarf from Helloyarn.com

I tought myself to crochet and I will teach myself to knit.

Things I make

I like all sorts of crafts so just to introduce what kinds of things I make here are a few pictures of the most recent projects.

things crochet

A purse for my sister.A purse for Myra and one for Barbie too!

afghan stitch crochet square with cross stitch April Fools Dragon. Square sewn to premade pillow.

Dragon cross stitch pattern
copywright by Dragon Dreams, Jennifer Aikman-Smith.

On to sewing projects and Erik's Birthday cake.

Noah as Elmo.
okay, I did not sew Elmo but the other kids are here and he had to be here too!

Myra as Princess Peach.
Myra's costume is entirely homemade.

Erik as Super Mario. Eriks hat, hammer, crochet mustache, and faux overhalls (just the top was homemade with velcro on side and worn with jeans)

Erik's Birthday is two days before halloween, so I had to make a matching birthday cake to go with his choice of costume.
